Disability Certification
The Disability Council will certify your disability. This means that the council will make a clinical decision with regard to your injury or illness.

During the first 24 months of your certified disability, you’re considered disabled if you cannot perform the essential functions of your regular job because of your illness or injury. The council will review the documentation your physician provides and reach a decision about your disability status. Time that you work in a restricted duty capacity will count towards the 24-month disability period.

If you have not totally returned to your regular job after 24 months of a certified disability, your eligibility for disability benefits will be evaluated again. To continue to receive long term disability benefits, you must be unable to work at any job. This means literally any job for which you are reasonably qualified by your education, training or experience––not just positions available within Advocate.
